70 glimpses of a piece of pie*

Entering a small shop a group of people are bartaring collectively to the storekeeper. Coming closer you hear a conversation about a small item trying to be sold for less than it's worth.

"For a piece of junk, I could buy it from an antique store at a third of this price" The tallest of the group said.
"Really! Aye, that be in me backyar' if ye wait long enough" A scruffy looking fellow said.
The storekeeper looked unimpressed and said straight up.

"I will not sell it for any lower price. And if you have faith it will show up in your backyard, then so be it! Wait. But you won't get this one!!"

A girl of the group slyly smiled and saw right through what the man was doing. "It sounds like he doesn't want to get rid of it. That's why he has the price at 10,000,000gold." The girl leaned in closer to the man and whispered. But said it loudly enough for everyone to catch snippets of it. "What does an old man like yourself have any need for an object like that?Hmmmm?Why not hand it over to us?"

"Makes it sound like you know the true meaning of the object." The store keeper said...but then his eyes widened as he realized he said too much.

The girl took a step back and her friends changed. The scruffy guy took an axe out of nowhere, the taller guy grew wings and his feet became birdlike with sharp claws, and the girl's nails extended to be huge claws. And you....happened to be right there.
